One juggernaut dominated Xbox Live during 2011 – and it’s exactly what you expected.
Activision’s Call of Duty franchise nabbed the three top spots on 2011′s Xbopx Live activity charts, as revealed by Major Nelson.
2010′s Black Ops took top spot, with November’s Modern Warfare 3 in second place and 2009′s Modern Warfare 2 coming in third.
2007′s Call of Duty 4 managed 14th place, and 2008′s World at War came in at 20th, giving the franchise one quarter of total ranking positions for the whole year.
Shooters in general were the flavour of the year (again), with Halo: Reach in fourth, Battlefield 3 in fifth, Gears of War 3 in seventh – and more beyond the top ten.
Age of Empires Online topped Games for Windows Live activity, while Angry Birds took out Windows Phone 7.
On the Arcade games charts, Pinball FX2 proved most popular, and Minecraft Clone FortressCraft maintained its hold on the indie scene.
